Outlook 2016 gal not updating in cached mode

Most users will find that Cached Exchange Mode performs faster than online mode.

Use of Cached Exchange Mode shields the user from network and server connection issues and facilitates switching from online to offline for mobile users.

The staff member may notice that when the address book is viewed in Outlook their name remains unchanged, and may do so for 24-48 hours.

A common reason for this is the offline address book (OAB) schedules that are in place for the environment.

When a user is working on another workstation a new OST file will be generated if not available.

Access to all data is not available until the initial synchronization is complete.

Cached Exchange Mode is the premier configuration in Outlook.

And additional load from OAB generation and distribution cycles running more frequently may be undesirable to some administrators.
