How accurate are dating scans at 17 weeks

Hi ladies, We have found out the sex of our baby at our 20 NHS scan, has anybody else? A private 3d scan would 100% confirm it but pricey (although we had one and it was very exciting seeing baby in 3d/4d!

Trying to convince DH but he thinks its a waste of money!!! No ifs or buts, they showed me where to look on my youngest, zoomed in and everything with my middle child they said if they were allowed to say 100% certain they would, but she wasnt allowed. I don't think NHS tend to tell you aless they are pretty sure.

The baby will be measured, and the anatomy examined in detail.

It is recommended that all pregnant women have a scan in the first trimester at around 12 weeks of pregnancy to confirm their dates.

Every pregnant woman wants to know her due date, and a due date that is calculated from her last menstrual period often doesn't match the due date that is estimated by her first ultrasound (also known as a sonogram).

During an ultrasound, a technician will spread a warm gel over the lower part of your abdomen and then press a tool called a transducer against your belly to examine your fetus using sound waves.

Most parents look forward to their scan because it gives them the first glimpse of their baby.During the examination, the fetus is seen by abdominal ultrasound.Occasionally the view is not clear and it may be necessary to perform a vaginal scan.An image of your fetus will appear on an accompanying computer screen and while looking at this image, the technician will take some standard measurements from different angles and listen for a heartbeat.Don't worry: This type of exam is painless and risk-free, and seeing your baby for the first time will likely be an enjoyable experience.
